Warm-up: Students viewed a photograph and answered the following:
Students spent time in the Media Center finding new Independent Reading novels and in class beginning to read them American Literature
Students submitted the hard copy version of their Research Papers (which also should already have been submitted to www.turnitin.com)
Students took their Vocab Test Note: This concludes Unit 1-The Power of Persuasion. American Literature
Students continued presenting their Unit 1 Persuasive Speeches HOMEWORK: Vocab Test tomorrow 9/20/19 over the Unit 12 words (posted near the bottom of the American Literature section) American Literature
1st & 2nd Block: Students were randomly chosen to deliver their Persuasive speeches before their peers. Those who were chosen but did not present were deducted 10% and will have to present at another time. 4th Block: Warm-up: "What if...? Wednesday": What if you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? Why? Students shared and discussed their warm-ups and then were allowed class time to draft and practice their Persuasive Speeches. American Literature
Warm-Up: students watched "6 Tips for Engaging Your Audience" and wrote down at least three (3) tips they could use in their speeches Watched and discussed two YouTube videos: Students were allowed time to draft and practice their Persuasive speeches American Literature
Students began class by picking up their Rough Draft Checklist and self-editing their paper rough drafts. Mr. Broome reviewed the Argumentative Essay Rubric, the Persuasive Speech Rubric and the Persuasive Speech Planning Guide. 1st & 2nd Block completed the Patrick Henry Speech analysis 4th Block students workshopped their rough drafts with both Mr. Broome and Mrs. Henderson American Literature
Independent Reading Warm-up: Free-write Friday Vocabulary quiz Read/Analyzed "Patrick Henry's Speech to the VA Convention" 4th block: spent time on laptop carts working on their initial drafts HOMEWORK: Students should be working on their Initial Drafts, due Monday 9/16/19, printed, at the start of class. Independent Reading Warm-up: What if...? Wednesday Students submitted their Formal Outlines Students were provided with the remaining Essay due dates:
1st & 2nd block: spent the remaining time in the Media Center 4th block: completed the Art of an Argument sheet American Literature
Independent Reading Warm-up: Watched Kid President Pep Talk and students commented on what he does well as a speaker Students were given the Art of an Argument sheet as pre-planning for their own speeches 4th Block spent time in the English Lab |
